Its certainly not a new concept, but incorporating street wear into my riding outfits is my favorite trick for keeping my ROOTDs current and affordable. There is such an obsession with the latest and greatest in equestrian fashion it almost seems taboo to wear anything but! With the innovations in the athletic apparel industry I find it increasingly easy to find pieces to ride in while I’m in my most beloved bargain stores!
Aside from boots, helmet, and breeches, the sky is the limit with options you can incorporate from your everyday wardrobe. In this look, I choose a turtleneck sweater from Walmart as my second layer ( a thermal base layer as the first). At below $10, it is a classic riding closet staple that I can afford to get in every color. Paired with my new favorite Horze silicone breeches that were a gift from a friend, it creates a polished and professional look in and out of the tack.
Topping off my riding outfit with accessories is the best way to really display my personal style and one of the easiest areas to look in when shopping outside the tack store. In this look, my belt, outerwear, hat, and shoes are all from street wear stores (& were under $35!). I tend to search for neutral accessories that can be worn in several ways, which in this case means black! My black belt was only $9.99 at T.J.Maxx, my ‘Team Unicorn’ hat is currently on sale at Boohoo for only $6 (!), my parka was a clearance find at Target for $34, and my shoes (which were a Christmas gift from my Mother in Law) were at Belk for under $20 on Black Friday!
And of course no riding outfit is complete without my Dreamers N Schemers boot socks!
What are some of your favorite ways to keep your ROOTDs affordable? I would LOVE to know! Thanks for reading!
